Abstract

In this paper we analyze the effect of the current refugee crisis in South-Eastern Europe by making an emphasis on the Bulgarian migration policy. After discussing the legal part, concerning the migration processes in the country, we present the most recent statistics, related to the refugee’s panorama in Bulgaria. Several current problems are analyzed such as the dynamics of the detainees at the borders and inside the country, the trafficking, the asylum applications, and the corresponding decisions, as well as other aspects related to the specific migration policies and their management. Finally, we discuss some recommendations for better sustainability as well as some important geopolitical issues, related to the disadvantageous position of the country as an entry gate to the EU and the concern regarding the EU-Turkish agreement in migration and resettlement.

Rossen Kostadinov Koroutchev , Taller de Estudios Mediterraneos, Facultad de Filosofia y Letras, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain

Rossen Kostadinov Koroutchev is a Master fellow of Geography (2008) and International Relations (2010) from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain, where later in 2014 he defended his PhD thesis about the European Return and Cyclic Migration. He is currently a Research Associate Scientist at the Group of Mediterranean Studies at the same University. His research is focused on Migration, Borders and Development issues.

Call For Papers (Extended Deadline)

Journal of Liberty and International Affairs now receives papers for its next 2024 issue (Vol. 10, No. 2, 2024). The journal aims to provide an active international forum for analysis, research, and debate in the fields of political sciences, international relations, and law. Papers that develop theoretical arguments or offer strong empirical evidence as either comparative or single-case studies are welcome. The journal is indexed in EBSCO, DOAJ, Crossref, CEEOL, SSOAR, ERIHPLUS, HeinOnline, CIAO, ProQuest, ANVUR (Class A), WorldCat, Dimensions, etc.

Alongside articles within the regular scope of the journal, this issue will include a thematic section on Digital Liberties in a Globalized World. It will examine the challenges and opportunities for digital liberties in the context of globalization, discussing issues such as internet censorship, surveillance, and the impact of technology on individual freedoms worldwide.

The deadline for paper submissions is 10 May 2024 (Extended deadline).

Authors are invited to submit articles to JLIA through the online submission system.
