The Institute for Research and European Studies is a self-supporting and non-profit organization. Hence, the publication fee is required to meet Journal of Liberty and International Affairs operating costs, such as editorial support which includes article manuscript tracking, communications, submission guideline checks, and communications with authors and reviewers; layout and typesetting; third-party software (e.g. plagiarism checker); review management; proofreading; archiving and submission of the content to numerous abstracts, directories, and indexes; editorial and administrative costs with unlimited space for figures, extensive data, and video footage; online hosting; and promotional support and activities including metadata distribution, press releases, promotional communications, web content, ads, flyers, brochures, postcards, etc. for the journal and its published contents. Being an open access publisher, IRES does not receive payment for subscriptions as JLIA is freely accessible over the internet. All articles submitted to JLIA are assumed to be submitted under the fee-based open access publishing model. Authors, their institutions, or their funders are responsible for covering a publication fee for each open-access article published in this journal. If the article is accepted for publication, authors will be asked to pay 480 EUR or its USD equivalent as an article publication fee in order to defray the operating costs. The payment method will be notified in the acceptance letter. Published articles appear electronically and are freely available from the Journal of Liberty and International Affairs website.
